GUSEC to support ideas, start-ups aimed at COVID-19 through ‘Breakthrough Accelerator’
Ahmedabad, April 2, 2020: Gujarat University’s start-up incubator GUSEC has geared itself to support ideas and start-ups that can offer solutions to the ongoing global pandemic of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). An idea and startup accelerator by the name of ‘Breakthrough Accelerator’ has been initiated by GUSEC where it has invited ideas and proposals from start-ups and innovators.
With novel coronavirus now spread in about all countries, it is imperative to find solutions that could save lives. Rahul Bhagchandani, Group CEO of the Gujarat University Start-up and Entrepreneurship Council (GUSEC) said that ideas to combat the outbreak are pouring in, but it is necessary to bring them on a single platform and provide them end-to-end support.
The first deadline for receiving the application is April 12 for the first round of applications, while the second deadline is April 22 for the second round. Applications will be permitted with multiple deadlines and continuous scrutiny will be done in a phased manner. Ideas and proposals will be nurtured and developed into concrete business models and financial support will be provided. “GUSEC is well placed in academic, government and business communities to support these ideas and if necessary even expedite various approvals. The accelerator that will debut on April 2, will focus on such start-ups,” said Bhagchandani.
“Universities are appropriate places where people from all walks of life come together, work collaboratively, and solve challenges faced by society, given the wide network and multidisciplinary nature of Universities. Through this Breakthrough Accelerator, we are pooling together all our possible resources on one common platform to look at various challenges and find solutions that could be implemented,” said Himanshu Pandya, Vice-Chancellor, Gujarat University.
The accelerator is supported by UNICEF. “We are happy to be part of this initiative which aims to bring young people in the forefront to fight an emergency situation in the country. The process would also involve children who were part of Children’s Innovation Festival organised last year. Young people have the knowledge and commitment to provide solution to any problem, our aim is to provide them a platform to engage cultivate the culture of innovation and design thinking among adolescents and young people,” said Laxmi Bhawani, Chief, UNICEF Gujarat.
The accelerator will also draw support from various affiliations of Gujarat University. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Ahmedabad Smart City are also partners of this accelerator. Further, GUSEC is affiliated to Student Support and Innovation Policy (SSIP) of the state government, is a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) under the Department of Science and Technology of the central government, and is a Nodal Body for state government’s startup scheme under Industries Commissionerate. GUSEC has also recently been funded with the Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE) Incubation Centre under the MietY Startup Hub of the Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India. Gujarat University also houses an Atal Incubation Centre supported by NITI Aayog, named AIC-GUSEC.
GUSEC shall be partnering with healthcare and testing laboratories along with getting medical experts on board as mentors. It has linkages with industry bodies like The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) to provide mentorship to the start-ups and innovators.

કોવિડ-19 સામેના સ્ટાર્ટ-અપ, આઇડિયાઝને જીયુસેક ટેકો આપશે
અમદાવાદ, એપ્રિલ 2, 2020: વિશ્વમાં હાહાકાર મચાવનાર કોરોનાવાઇરસ સામે જીવન-રક્ષક ઉપાય તૈયાર કરી શકે તેવા આઇડિયાઝ અને સ્ટાર્ટ-અપ્સને ટેકો આપવા ગુજરાત યુનિવર્સિટીનું સ્ટાર્ટ-અપ ઇન્ક્યુબેટર, ગુજરાત યુનિવર્સિટી સ્ટાર્ટ-અપ એન્ડ ઓન્ત્રપ્રીન્યરશીપ કાઉન્સિલ (જીયુસેક) સજ્જ થઈ રહ્યું છે. જેની પાસે આવાઆઇડિયાઝ અથવા પ્રસ્તાવ હોય તેમણે જીયુસેકને અરજી કરવાની રહેશે.
જીયુસેકના સીઇઓ રાહુલ ભાગચંદાનીએ જણાવ્યું હતું કે, કોરોનાવાઇરસ સામે રક્ષણ આપી શકે તેવા ઉપાયોના પ્રસ્તાવો જીયુસેક સમક્ષ આવ્યા હતા, અને આવા બીજા અનેક આઇડિયાઝ હોય શકે છે. આ તમામ આઇડિયાઝને એક મંચ પર લાવવા, તેમજ તેમને દરેક તબક્કે ટેકો આપવો જરૂરી છે.
આવી અરજીઓ માટે અનેક સમયમર્યાદા રાખવામાં આવી છે અને તબક્કાવાર તેમની ચકાસણી પણ થશે. પ્રથમ સમયમર્યાદા 12 એપ્રિલ, જ્યારે બીજી સમયમર્યાદા 22 એપ્રિલ છે. આઇડિયાઝ તેમજ પ્રસ્તાવોનું નક્કર બિઝનેસ મોડેલ્સમાં રૂપાંતર કરવામાં આવશે અને નાણાકીય ટેકો પણ પૂરો પાડવામાં આવશે. રાહુલે જણાવ્યું હતું કે, આવા આઇડિયાઝને ટેકો આપવા જીયુસેક શૈક્ષણિક, સરકારી તેમજ વ્યાપારિક વર્તુળો સાથે સારી રીતે સંકળાયેલું છે અને જરૂર જણાય તો સરકારી મંજૂરીઓ તાબડતોબ મળી રહે તેવા પ્રયત્નો પણ કરી શકે છે.
ગુજરાત યુનિવર્સિટી ના કુલપતિ ર્ડો હિમાંશુ પંડ્યા એ કહ્યું કે “યુનિવર્સિટીઓ એ યોગ્ય સ્થાનો છે જ્યાં યુનિવર્સિટીઓના વિશાળ નેટવર્ક અને મલ્ટિડિસિપ્પ્લિનરી પ્રકૃતિને ધ્યાનમાં રાખીને, જીવનના દરેક ક્ષેત્રના લોકો એક સાથે આવે છે, સહયોગથી કાર્ય કરે છે, અને સમાજ દ્વારા સામનો કરેલા પડકારોનો ઉકેલ લાવે છે. આ બ્રેકથ્રુ એક્સેલેટર દ્વારા, અમે વિવિધ પડકારો જોવા અને અમલ કરી શકાય તેવા ઉકેલો શોધવા માટે અમારા બધા સંભવિત સંસાધનો એક સમાન પ્લેટફોર્મ પર એકસાથે એકત્રિત કરી રહ્યા છીએ.”
યુનિસેફ આ પહેલને સમર્થન આપે છે. યુનિસેફ ગુજરાતના વડા ર્ડો લક્ષ્મી ભવાનીએ જણાવ્યું હતું કે, “અમે આ પહેલનો ભાગ બનીને ખુશ છીએ કે જેનો હેતુ દેશમાં કટોકટીની પરિસ્થિતિ સામે લડવા યુવાનોને આગળ લાવવાનો છે. આ પ્રક્રિયામાં એવા બાળકો પણ શામેલ હશે જે ગયા વર્ષે આયોજિત ચિલ્ડ્રન્સ ઇનોવેશન ફેસ્ટિવલનો ભાગ હતા. યુવાનો પાસે કોઈપણ સમસ્યાનું સમાધાન પૂરું પાડવાની પ્રતિબદ્ધતા છે; અમારો ઉદ્દેશ યુવાનોમાં નવીનતા અને ડિઝાઇન વિચારની સંસ્કૃતિ કેળવવા માટે તેમને એક મંચ પૂરો પાડવાનો છે.”
જીયુસેક ગુજરાત સરકારની સ્ટુડન્ટ સ્ટાર્ટ-અપ એન્ડ ઇનોવેશન પોલિસી (એસએસઆઇપી)માં ભાગીદાર છે, કેન્દ્ર સરકારના વિજ્ઞાન અને પ્રોદ્યોગિકી વિભાગની ટેક્નોલોજી બિઝનેસ ઇન્ક્યુબેટર તરીકે તેને માન્યતા મળી છે, ઇલેક્ટ્રોનિક્સ અને આઇટી મંત્રાલયના સ્ટાર્ટ-અપ હબ્સ પ્રોગ્રામમાં સામેલ છે, તેમજ અમદાવાદ શહેરના સ્માર્ટસિટી પ્રોજેક્ટમાં પણ તે યોગદાન આપી રહ્યું છે. આ ઉપરાંત ગુજરાત સરકારની સ્ટાર્ટ-અપ પોલિસીમાં તે નોડલ ઇન્સ્ટિટ્યુશન તરીકે પ્રમાણિત છે.
જીયુસેક હેલ્થકેર તેમજ ટેસ્ટિંગ લેબોરેટરિઝ સાથે તાલમેલ સાધી રહ્યું છે. તબીબી ક્ષેત્રના નિષ્ણાતોને તે મેન્ટર્સ તરીકે લઈ રહી છે. આ ઉપરાંત સ્ટાર્ટ-અપ્સને મેન્ટર્સ મળી રહે તે માટે ધ ઇન્ડસ ઓન્ત્રપ્રીન્યરસ (ટાઇ) જેવા ઉદ્યોગ સંગઠન સાથે તે ગાઢ રીતે કામ કરી રહી છે.
